I am based in Reigate, Surrey in England and teach students at all levels from children age 6 up to adult. My approach to teaching centres around the needs and abilities of the different age groups with the emphasis on making music from the very beginning.
I run guitar learning workshops as well as individual 1-2-1 lessons which complement each other by helping students stay motivated and having fun.
I teach by guiding students through methodical learning principles supported by graded guitar materials in all modern and classical styles. Students can then, at any point, choose to take graded exams through established organisations like ABRSM (Royal School of Music) and Trinity College, or continue as they are with confidence.
I approach lessons the way I treat my morning practice routines - I define clear objectives before I start. This means the focus is on actual learning rather than time spent in the chair.
Studying guitar and music has been a life long passion that continues to inspire me to share the knowledge I have acquired and hopefully motivate others to have a go at it. Take a look at my Vinyard to see what I'm up to away from teaching.
Although I do teach beginners, these days I specialise in teaching improvisation to guitar players in Jazz ,Rock and Blues and progressive styles. There seem to be so many players around these days who have learned to play technically well, but still find it difficult to improvise and play freely in a jam situation.
I am happy to put players through classical or rock grades, or help intermediate players move into the professional realm where good technique and a grounding in theory basics helps develop musical freedom and creativity.
My lessons are very focused on improvement toward an agreed goal. This helps me make sure that everyone I teach develops new skills as quickly as possible.
