Imagine how frustrating it would be if you hadn't learned to read English, had no access to the world of fiction and didn't learn how to escape into your beautiful imagination.

The world of music has it's own language; learning to read and write it at an early age is very rewarding later on in life. Sight reading guitar music is difficult, which is why it is so important to learn the language of music from a young age.

Part of my responsibility as a teacher is to make sure that I provide every student with at least a foundation in music that supports them in any musical direction they take later on.

I have 5 broad objectives with every junior student:

Teach foundation musicianship
- Understand Rhythms and Timing
- Introduce Standard Notation
- Ear Training - listening to musical pitches
Introduce finger-style techniques
- Preparation for Classical Guitar Grades
- Access to 200 years of finger-style repertoire
Introduce modern pop/rock techniques
- Using a pick (plectrum) for single notes
- Strumming with a pick
- Reading TAB ( Guitar Tablature) and chord boxes
Introduce and develop solo performance
- To learn the joy of playing, the reward for practise
Introduce and develop ensemble performance
- To learn to listen and appreciate others
- To learn to make music as part of a team

I teach all junior students with a defined progressive learning method that provides foundation musical skills and basic guitar mechanics. This sets up the path to Guitar Grades in both Classical and Rock/Pock styles.
